Basic Information
Bakkuto
- Age: 19
- Height: 5'8"
- Weight: 145 lbs.
- Gender: Male
- Appearance: Character Quirks
- Personality: To come across him, one wouldn't classify Bakkuto as the friendly type. He's somewhat antisocial, incredibly blunt, scathingly sarcastic, and doesn't suffer fools well. It's hard to make friends with him, and even then, he's a hard person to get along with, as he is often the raincloud in anyone's conversation, ready to bring a little crushing realism back into the situation. This isn't anything really personal, however. Bakkuto's general attitude is all a defense mechanism developed since dealing with the rigorous societal pressures of his old home.
Behind the hard, cynical wall, there exists a boy simply wanting to help people however he can. He hates war and those who fight in it, thinking that the world gives people enough to worry about without killing each other. Moreso if the reasons behind the killing are as trivial and as stupid as upholding someone's traditions. If the decision ever came between honor and life, Bakkuto would choose life every time. He will not sacrifice himself, or anyone else, for some intangible ideals. Every life is important, and those who say otherwise are misguided and denying what a valuable gift life really is.
To those he holds closest to him, Bakkuto is extremely loyal and honest to a fault. Even if he doesn't hold back his sarcasm, he truly cares for them, no matter what may happen. He is fiercely independent and strives against the conventions of others, doing what he wants regardless of how others may perceive it. Even if that independent streak gets him into trouble, in spite of his lack of battle prowess he will not back down an inch. He may be of the Water Tribe, but against traditions he deems unworthy, Bakkuto's will is ironclad.
- Alignment: Chaotic Good: he sticks it to the man if he doesn't believe that the man is right, but Bakkuto's heart is in the right place and won't hesitate to help others in need, even if his demeanor isn't the most sympathetic one.
- Nation: Water Tribe, North Pole
- Affiliation: Still considers himself a member of the Northern Water Tribe, even though he is somewhat estranged from them.
- Goal(s): Being free to make his own decisions is a good start. He wants to see the world, experience its wonders, help as many people as he can and prove to everyone in his tribe as well as himself that how you're born shouldn't impact where you decide to end up in life. Eventually, he would like to seek his brethren in the Southern Tribe, perhaps learn more combative waterbending more for defense than for any kind of glory in battle.
- Brief History: Bakkuto was born during the mildest winter of recent memory for the North Pole, where the great ice walls around the main city began to weep from the overbearing sun. He was born as the son of a proud and prestigious warrior, and the youngest sibling with a sister three years his senior. Already his father had high hopes for him, as he had secretly feared that he wouldn't have a son to survive his warrior legacy for the protection of the tribe. Tradition meant everything to Bakkuto's father, and his early childhood meant the grooming of the boy to become a fully fledged master of combative waterbending.
His sister Sorrcha, and to a lesser extent his mother, were the first ones to inflame the rebellious attitude of Bakkuto growing up. Sorrcha always desired to be a warrior from her own earliest days, though she lacked the ability to waterbend, and violently resisted her father's attempts to have her engaged early to men of other families. And though it was expected of him to take the path that Sorrcha desperately wanted to go down, Bakkuto found that he just didn't want to learn how to fight and kill. He didn't want to hurt anyone, and he resented his father telling him how he should live his life, as though he never had a choice in the first place.
It wasn't as though his father was cold and heartless, though. He truly loved his family, but was just so influenced by the traditions of his people that he thought the best way for them to realize themselves in this world was to follow it to the letter. So, on Bakkuto's tenth birthday, his father brought back a polar dog pup from the wild he discovered alone, without its mother. He thought the pup would help instill some fighting spirit in his son, as well as give him a friend to latch onto. He was at least right on one count, as Bakkuto loved his polar bear dog, Padee, from the very start, and the two would be nearly inseparable from then on.
Bakkuto continued to grow up and grow more distant from his father as he was forced to learn the more combative aspects of his waterbending gift. His mother noticed his discomfort, and one day decided to test something. Without his father's knowledge, she took her son to the healing women to have him learn the arts of healing from them. Bakkuto took to it like a fish to water, practicing nearly every night when his father was away, and often sneaking away when he wasn't. He developed his curative abilities with waterbending for five years this way, his mother and sister covering his tracks for him.
However, before he turned eighteen years old, Bakkuto was discovered by his father. Infuriated that his son had sneaked behind his very back to practice arts that were forbidden for the men to carry out, or at least what he hated for his son to carry out, his father disavowed his own son, saying that his actions tarnished the family honor. Suddenly, word came that pirates from foreign lands had spirited away ancient artifacts from their cultural center. Feeling that he owed it to the family to make up for his son's "mistake", Bakkuto's father volunteered to retrieve the artifacts from the pirates and set sail immediately, without even giving his family a good-bye.
His body washed up on the icy shore three days later.
One may conclude that from this, Bakkuto might take to heart what his father's final wishes for him were, to become a warrior and seek revenge against the pirates for what they did to his family and his tribe. This could not be farther from the truth. Bakkuto only grew more embittered at his father and the customs of his tribe for wasting their lives to bring back petty baubles. As far as he was concerned, his father left his family husbandless and fatherless all for the sake of petty glory and artifacts. He told the northern chief as much, which only earned him harsh rebukes and confinement in the village by his elders, until he received the warrior training that was expected of him, so that one day he would appreciate what his father sacrificed for the greater good.
That night, Bakkuto took Padee and a small fishing boat and rowed away from his home without even so much as a backward glance. After days at sea, he wrecked the boat in a storm on the shores of the Earth Kingdom, and for the past few months, he has been living by his wits on the land, making his way towards a place called Ba Sing Se, where members of his sister tribe may be located.Combat Marks - Stat

At first, Thane thought it was Hexant speaking to him again, in the haze following his fist connecting with Revenant's power source. But this new voice was unlike the calm, stoic words of his Nobody, nor were they the harsh, mocking whispers of his Heartless. Yet a third omnipotence seemed to be at work within him, and Thane thought for a moment in irony that with so many separate entities at work in his heart, there would barely be enough room left for him.
But this new presence, as said before, wasn't like the others that he had experienced up to now. It was voiceless, without inflection or timbre, as though the meaning to the words "spoken" imprinted themselves into his mind. It was definitely an odd sensation. But only the first oddity that came to his mind.
The world was still white, and the wounds he took from Revenant seemed to lessen, become more distant. It felt like he was just floating, but gradually, in front of him, the world seemed to refocus into something else. Like a castaway being drifted in by the tide, Thane gave up his will and let the current take him towards the end of the tunnel...
His real eyes opened up on some kind of glass surface that glowed softly with some kind of internal light. Sitting himself up, he nearly blacked out again as the pain seared into his side, a reminder of the trials he had faced thus far. Rubbing his eyes as his vision swam back to him, the boy steadied himself and rose slowly to his feet, gathering his wits as he tried to figure out where he was now. It wasn't the Revenant's crypt within the catacombs of the constructed cathedral. It didn't even seem to be from his own mind. This was another place entirely.
All around was smokey darkness. No light drifted from above or around him. It was all inky clouds, impenetrable and solid in their uniform black. But below... Thane's gray eyes opened wide. As strange as it may have seemed, he was on some kind of stained glass platform, rising up from the swirls of smoke. And the picture it depicted... was him. He seemed to be floating, his eyes closed. And the picture went on in a beautifully crafted but still baffling mosaic. There were four smaller circles around his glass form that depicted the heads and shoulders of other people. One he recognized as Hexant... another was Revenant... one was the pink-haired girl from his dreams... and the final one was Diana.
This was just getting weirder and weirder. Slowly, despite the pain that flared up in his side, Thane stumbled over to her portrait and knelt beside it. He knew that she was important to him, but... she was here? Strangely, he supposed it made sense, though he couldn't know exactly what sense it made. On an impulse, a hand reached out and touched the glass that formed her cheek.
A voice made him stop and straighten up.
"Thane, you did it." It was Hexant's voice, warm and full of praise.
The boy rose back to his feet and stopped himself from getting into a defensive stance. Both Hexant and Revenant were standing side by side in front of him, and yet both seemed not to be fighting at all. Rather, they were just watching him. The Heartless growled softly, while Hexant had a smile on his face.
"Hexant," Thane began, his voice soft, "Is... is it over?"
Again, the Nobody gave his dry chuckle and replied, "The tides of Light and Darkness never truly cease their waves."
Revenant surprised him by actually speaking, his archaic and harsh tone slightly subdued but still having a hint of malice behind it, "Mine power is diminished, as is thou purest light. Mine defiance shalt not arise... for the moment."
"What is important," Hexant continued, "is that you have faced your fears and conquered your Darkness. Your inner light, as a result, has diminished as well, in order for equilibrium to take place. You are now a being of Balance. And because of that, my powers within you can now be awakened."
"R-really?" Thane asked. This was what he had been wanting for so long. To reunite the lost parts within himself and to claim his true power, to save London and fight the Heartless wherever they may be. "Then... how do we awaken it?"
Join with them. Join and be complete.
For what seemed the millionth time that day, Thane nearly jumped out of his skin. The voice had spoken, and though neither Hexant nor Revenant reacted to it, they must have known it had spoken, because they didn't look at Thane as though he had jumped for no reason. They simply waited, until Thane, seemingly from instinct, extended his hand outward and held it flat in front of the two. Revenant seemed to pause, and laid its gauntlet claw across Thane's hand. He felt the coarse metal coldly against his skin but didn't flinch. Hexant nodded and placed his gloved hand on the top of the other two.
The boy looked to Revenant. "My Darkness..."
He turned his gaze to Hexant. "My Nothingness..."
Suddenly, the platform they stood upon shone upward with a grand brilliance, filling Thane's eyes so much that he had to cover them with his other hand. The other two forms didn't flinch.
And your Light.
When his sight returned, Hexant and Revenant had disappeared, and instead of two hands lying on his own, Thane held... a Keyblade. It was shorter than Diana's, more compact, but the blade was wider and spikier. A motif of checkered black and white patterns ran down it, but it was tied together with a violet border that surrounded it. On the key chain, there was a small trinket that showed a brilliant silver moon and cross-like star splitting through it. A luminous, silver aura seemed to cover Thane and his new weapon like a nimbus, and within, he felt himself grow calm, serene, and at peace.
Take this weapon. Take it... and bring balance to the worlds.
The voice disappeared, leaving him alone in the center of the glass platform. The Keyblade was still clutched tightly in his hand, and his side still ached from the blow Revenant had dealt it, but Thane had done it. He had done it!
