Thanks for showing interest in our humble RP, I would like to take the opportunity to explain the principles behind this site of ours.
This is a role-play forum, a site where members with a common interest write a story in the form of collaborative fiction. This means that every member controls a specific character or two and writes the story from the perspective of those characters.
The story of this RP is based off of the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender and Avatar: The Legend of Korra, but not the bad live-action movie. In order not to have to worry about continuity with the television series, this RP is what is called an "Alternate Universe" RP. Same world, same rules, but a different timeline. This timeline happens in the "past" relative to the series, happening before the Fire Nation became industrialized, but the alternate timeline means that there will never be an Avatar Yangchen/Kuruk/Kyoshi/Roku/Aang/Korra. However, there are still Kyoshi Warriors, so make sure to read up on the references and lore material for our site to fully understand what is happening.
There are two types of stories in which to participate. The larger, over-arching plot is controlled by the admins using special NPCs that are for admin-use only. These plots and events will happen regardless of how many characters, if any, participate in these events... just like they would in a real world. Just like in a real world, the consequences of helping or hindering or inaction will reverberate throughout the world.
The other type of stories are player-controlled plots. These plots are cooked up and run by the RPers themselves, but an admin can help run a plot if the plot creator requests it. For the most part, the players are free to do as they wish as long as they do not break any of the rules. However, keep in mind that personal plots have consequences and may cause a backlash from the overarching story, and the admins may have to intervene earlier if a player plot interferes with unrevealed backstory. So it's a good idea to keep the admins in the loop in regards to your personal plots to avoid conflict.
Combat in this RP is going to be loosely based on how combat is portrayed in novels, with a back-and-forth between competing warriors until a winner emerges or the fight is interrupted. The abilities and weaknesses of each warrior is determined by the character bio submitted to and approved by the admins. When characters battle, there are two ways to choose a winner. The first way is to decide on a winner BEFORE you begin fighting, tell an admin, and then write out the fight. The second way is to request an admin to referee your battle, start fighting, and then the admin you requested will call a winner when (s)he decides a character has emerged as the victor. If an admin is requested to referee, no argument is to be brooked regarding their decision unless it seems blatantly unfair.
When creating your character, there are a number of factors to be considered, which will be detailed elsewhere. One of the two biggest considerations is age, which limit the power and ability of your character. The other is your starting abilities. You then create a basic character template, and then unlock/"purchase" new skills as your character progresses with the story.
Regardless, there will be some secret arts that will require everyone to participate in some basic form of character progression. This skill progression will be possible through a "Skill Exchange" run by the admins. Points will be awarded for posting, completing threads, and participating and completing story arcs in the overall plot. This will all be detailed elsewhere.
