Earth.
History is much like an endless waltz. The three beats of War, Peace, and Revolution continue on forever.
The previous Avatar, the Water Tribe's Avatar Kataum, was a powerful and much-loved force for good in the world. His mark on history will forever be defusing a minor skirmish before it could escalate into a bloody war, creating a peace that would last for over a century. For those that knew him, Avatar Kataum was a warm light for all mankind, helping out anyone who needed anything. Kataum was a man that always smiled, bringing happiness and fun to everyone he met. Still, loved as he was, Avatar Kataum's time in the world set like the sun, and the cycle continued.
Twenty-three years ago, the next Avatar was born into a working-class Earth Kingdom family, a young man named Xuan Wu. Avatar Xuan Wu so far has lived a very uneventful life. He worked with his parents and trained in Earthbending until he was sixteen, when he was revealed as the next Avatar. He spent the next five years learning the other elements, and was only one year ago recognized as a fully-realized Avatar.
The world has known nothing but peace for generations, even as tensions between the Four Nations rise and fall. But while Balance is maintained between the Four Nations, and peace reigns among all mankind, all is not well.
Strange phenomenon are occurring all over the world. Odd weather patterns have disrupted the global climate, creating outbreaks of freak weather phenomenon and interfering with agriculture. People, often travelers, disappear without a trace. New, violent animals and deadly diseases have sprung up literally overnight. Fear and panic are starting to spread among the general populace. Rumors are spreading that the chaos is the result of the Spirit World turning against the Living World.
