Character Quirks
- Personality:
Daiyu is a young cheerful and confident lady with a spontaneous streak. She has confidence in her appearance and abilities, and is very stubborn and hard working to the point where she'll neglect herself. Sometimes her confident tends to come off as arrogance. This hasn’t always been the case, but she always overcame many difficulties to become this way. She may come off as clumsy, dense and clueless, but is actually an excellent tactician, regularly displaying cunning, perception, and resourcefulness that allows for her to take advantage of nearly any situation. Her will burns strong as she has a powerful fighting spirit and she is so straightforward she is not afraid to be blunt with anyone, which can often result in negative confrontations with others. She is not as trustworthy towards others as she could be, but if someone earns her trust she is genuinely loyal and friendly towards them.
Daiyu believes when things go wrong on the outside, it is because people are wrong on the inside. She is for the most part a nice and considerate person, interested in helping others, but also has a problem with being controlling. As she worked for the Dai Li, Daiyu worked to become as a performers to have a personality that is separate from, or at least complementary to, her ability to become the character that the Dai Li would have her play as an under cover agent. Being an under cover agent requires her to play characters, and as such Daiyu must adjust her acting approach for each of them. She is skilled enough that she doesn't lose sight of her own persona — the one that’s associated with her voice, manner, appearance — otherwise she wouldn’t be herself any longer.
Daiyu has no problem with the necessity to use force and can often become violent when angered or pushed far enough, displaying her vicious anger problems. She does not shy away from fighting. This can be a bad thing and makes her very reckless considering she is not very big or strong (although she compensates with her skill). All in all, although a bit fierce, she is pretty sharp and very patient. She has a good heart and good intentions, but can sometimes be a bit too blunt. Daiyu believes that what will be, will be.
As Lin-Lin Jiao:
Daiyu's personality shifts a little as Lin-lin, her anger and violent streak nearly disappearing, being replaced by a more peaceful, gentle and perhaps even self-righteous girl. She is a pacifist, utterly unwilling to lift a hand in violence. Patient as a saint. Literally. She'll wait as long as you need and she'll take as much time as needed to get somewhere. Lin-lin isn't afraid of anything within the realm of man. Swords, blood, death, etc. However, she does fear the spirits as well as she should, for to her they must be absolutely feared and respected. Lin-lin works to bring peace between humans and the spirits to put an end to the fighting.
As Ju-long Liang:
Daiyu becomes more reserved, slow to anger, however, he becomes more ruthless than Daiyu ordinarily is. He executes orders with lethal precision and a coldness Daiyu would never display on her own. Daiyu is passion, whilst Ju-long is apathy. He is rather laid back. He doesn't care about that much outside of the Black Jade Vanguard's cause. He has little regard for the lives of others. Those who he does treasure, he views more as pets than friends with scant exceptions. He believes that through his connection with the spirits, he has transcended from being a normal person. He also believes that the spirits are to be feared and respected and will act in violence towards those who just can't see it, absolutely willing to execute them where they stand.

- Brief History:
Daiyu was born into the lower class of Ba Sing Se where she lived with her mother and father. Her parents were farmers who raised the crops that provided food for the vast population of the great city, and their small family had the money they needed to get through the day. Her mother was an earth bender, and her simple father had fallen in love with her. Her mother came form the upper middle class whilst her father was the lowest class there could possibly be. Never did anyone think that such a pair would come to be. But her mother sacrificed her comfortable life for love and together they brought Daiyu into the world.
Daiyu helped around the farm for as long as she could remember, and since she was always around her mother, she began to learn basic earth bending tactics and skills at a very young age, but she was not a natural at all. Daiyu had to train every day (after she finished all of her chores), and her mother was not an easy teacher. Mother was very good at transforming between a nurturing mother and a roughin' toughin' teacher with no mercy. On her 10th birthday, her father bought her a rainhorse colt she named Zhu. It became her responsibility to raise him. Daiyu saw this as an opportunity to show that she was a responsible young lady and took it very seriously. Daiyu and Zhu bonded and were nearly inseparable.
Daiyu had a best friend, too. It was their neighbor's son and it was the only person in the world that she could talk to. Daiyu would tell him everything, even her deepest darkest secrets. Even her dreams. It was Daiyu's dream to see the world ever since she was young. What else could a girl dream about confined to a little farm in a crowded city? Everyone was exactly the same. She wanted more than that life, and she definitely did not want to be just a farmer's daughter. Daiyu wanted to make a name for herself somehow.
However, her dream would not be so. For as time went buy, the dream became sillier and sillier. The Walkers and the Vanguard were always hard at work trying to recruit members into their secretive guilds, but Daiyu was very resistant against it. But not her best friend. He joined the Black Jade Vanguard, leaving Daiyu alone. That was when she realized that she needed to really think about what it was that she wanted to do with her life.
When Daiyu was 13 years of age, she witnessed the Dai Li in action for the first time and fell in love. From that day forward, she wished to become a member of the Dai Li. It would be great because she would get to work for the Earth King himself! Daiyu had never even seen the Earth King before. But her parent were against it. They wanted to keep their precious daughter away from danger and harm. But this would not stop Daiyu. She trained hard on the farm by day and even harder on her earth bending and fighting prowess by night. It was almost as if she never slept. Her parents had to keep reminding her to sleep and to eat because of how hard she worked herself.
By the time she turned 14, she was absolutely sure she was ready to join the Earth Kingdom Military to work her way up. But when she went to apply, they laughed at her and asked her where her daddy was. Daiyu's famous anger flared and she attacked a soulder. She managed to take three of them head on without being beaten down completely and she gave them one hell of a challenge. Luckily for her, their commander was there and restrained her before she could make things worse. That day, Daiyu was thrown in jail and her parents had to bail her out.
Daiyu received a very long and loud scolding from the both of them as they treated her wounds. But that very same night, they received a visit. It was the Commander of the Earth Kingdom Military. He had come to inform them that Daiyu showed promise and that they would make an exception for the young girl, if her parents would allow it. With tears in her eyes, she begged them to let her go. She was ready to go. It was the hardest thing they did in their lives, but they knew they had to let their little girl go. She was not like ordinary girls. She was far beyond them all. And so they did.
In six months, Daiyu was working actively as a common soldier for the military. For the first time in her life, Daiyu felt alive. But it was not enough. It didn’t feel like enough. There was always something she wanted to break out of, or feel more. More connected, more honest. Another year went by that she had risen through the ranks until finally, she had reached her goal; she was recruited into the Dai Li. It was a thrill being able to serve the city, making arrests and upholding the law, bringing justice the criminals of Ba Sing Se. After a six month period where she had to undergo training, she was sent into the field. She busted drug dealers, stopped thieves, rescued hostages, spied on the citizens, and much more.
Daiyu became an undercover agent at 17 years old.
She had to built a life for herself in Ba Sing Se before joining the Walkers and being a double agent for the Earth King. The reason for the mission was to find out more about the spirits that were attacking. That was her first mission. It was an honor. A privilege. And Daiyu was more than happy to do it. So when building her life in the city, she did not make it a lie and truly made what was supposed to be fake, real. In this life she was ordered to call herself Lin-lin Jiao and was under the protection of the Dai Li to make sure that nothing went wrong. In order to do this right and to keep her true identity a secret, she put on a disguise. She hid the beauty mark on her face, threw some glasses on, cleaned the make-up off and abandoned her up-do, letting her hair loose and unkempt.
It was that time of the year where the Walkers and the Vanguard went out recruiting. Lin-lin was easily recruited into the Walkers once she demonstrated and proved her beliefs to them. Lin-lin was an advocate of peace, not of war. She assisted them in their diplomatic matters. Daiyu didn't know much about being a diplomat before that. Additionally, she learned a lot of spiritual things that she never knew before.
It became a learning opportunity. She learned quickly and found that she actually enjoyed it. Acting as a neutral force between the Spirits and the people was fun. However, she was careful not to grow too attached. If she did, she would be compromising her own mission. Nevertheless, it was easy to pretend. It was with the Walkers that Daiyu first left the city of Ba Sing Se. Some Walkers were sent to visit Kiyoshi Island where they had planned to do a service to preach and recruit. The experience was a good one. As Lin-lin, Daiyu was able to inform the Dai Li and the Earth King on all matters of the Walkers and the Spirits.
But it was not enough. It was not enough because the Walkers were for the Spirits, not against. Their message was of peace, which did not bode well for a Military in a Confederate Monarchy. They ordered Daiyu to also join the Black Jade Vanguard, considering they seemed to be much closer to the spirits. That way, they could know more. Daiyu worked to create a new male persona she called Ju-long Liang. As Ju-long, her hair covers half of her face with the rest going down her back and a green and yellow band around her forehead.
Daiyu uses bandages to flatten her chest (even though her chest is flat enough already) and wraps her shoulders to make them look bigger and more masculine, giving her body the v-shape that most males have (she has an hour-glass figure). Daiyu was trained by a special Dai Li agent to help her voice sound like that of a young man's, or at least as close to it as she could get. She wears a short and light green and yellow tunic with a brown undershirt, brown pants and a brown sash tied around the waist. As Ju-long, Daiyu hides the fact that she is an earth bender. Instead, she fights without bending her respective element.
Ju-long was 18 years old when he joined the Black Jade Vanguard and was given a ring embroidered with a jade orb. His first few missions were rather simple ones. There was one where he helped supervise an underground fight. One where he had to be a middle-man for things that were still kept hidden from him, as he was not yet to be fully trusted. One where he had to 'babysit' a member of the Black Jade Vanguard who was to be assassinated some time in the near future for being a snitch. His job was to hide this fact. Then came the hardest mission yet. A mission where he had to murder an innocent man in cold blood for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. It was the hardest thing Daiyu had ever done in her life. But she could not blow allow herself to blow her cover.
Eventually, Ju-long had earned his place in the Black Jade Vanguard and was let in on the more spiritual side of the organization. To say that keeping up with the identity of both Ju-long and Lin-lin was difficult would have been an understatement. It challenged Daiyu mentally, emotionally, and physically(considering how little sleep she managed to get in between the two characters). Not losing herself in those personas became harder and harder to do. At first, she did slip up a few times where she would mistake which character she portrayed but Daiyu was quick to correct herself and learn from it, becoming better for it in the end.
Two years later at 20 years old, Daiyu has become so good at switching form persona to persona that she has no trouble doing so and does not risk losing herself in the process. It is as easy as shifting between the gear levels of a car or turning a light switch on and off. She has become close to many of the members of each organization (although she is hardly acquainted with any of their leaders, even though she does witness them preach and issue missions, she has kept herself as a regular member of both groups so as to not gain too much attention to herself) and is held at high esteem within the Dai Li and the Earth King.
Combat Marks
- Stat System:
Daiyu maintains relatively good balance between her offensive and defensive capabilities, with a little more positive Jing than negative Jing (more willingness to attack than evade), and more neutral Jing than both negative and positive (plays close attention as to when the right opportunity to strike is). Daiyu is not not a strong earth bender, but she definitely has more agility and flexibility, which is uncommon for the element, and she's more skilled than the average earth bending Joe. Daiyu plants her weight like a skilled earth bender, but is light and fast enough to leap around like a happy-go-lucky air bender. She is slender and graceful, which gives the fluidity of a water bender. So although she might not bend those particular elements, she is better able to understand how they work and move accordingly with a fast reaction time. It is obvious that her movements have heavy earth bending influence with her in-your-face relentlessness. Daiyu has a mixed martial arts style that allows for more control on the battlefield. Daiyu has also had to learn how to fight without having to use earth bending and by doing so she has become skilled in using her body as well as a weapon in combat.

Last Words
- Other:
Daiyu has a male adult Rainhorse companion named Zhu. Daiyu trained him since he was a young colt. He can jump over most obstacles, can run at full speed for a day without tiring much, and can kick enemies with his hooves or ram them with his horns. He is fiercely loyal and defensive of Daiyu and understands her perfectly well, so he obeys commands easily.

Oh, you got into a fight?
"Yeah I did," she chuckled. "I was out training and then she came out of nowhere and wouldn't leave me alone. I lost my temper and here we are." When she caught him looking at the raw stitches, she tried to play it off cool. "It's not that bad, really. Just a misunderstanding, I guess.... Chi gave the idea of using scorpion venom to dull the pain... it's done a bit more than that, but it's all good."
It was nice of Kozaimaru-sensei to go out of his way to look for her; her clan certainly wouldn't have done the same. If he hadn't, it might have taken them another day to find the village again. Tsubaki knew the area well enough, but after passing out from the fight and waking up at a different location, it was harder to tell exactly where they were.
"Thanks for coming, sensei... to look for me... or whatever."
Took me awhile, but I managed to catch ya. Isn't your sensei awesome?
Tsubaki was smart enough to quickly figure out that her sensei clearly didn't like Chimamire. As to why it was, she did not know. He seemed to have recognized her from the beginning, so it couldn't have been because he simply did not know her. And the way that he looked at her... was she missing something? Tsubaki really didn't like being out of the loop.
Chimamire hugged her around the waist. She blushed with her arms out, not really knowing what to do with them, and in the end she just patted the girl on the shoulder, looking away as if embarrassed. Tsubaki hadn't any close contact with people in a while and certainly not affectionately, either. Most of the time, any contact that she did have was filled with conflict, drama, aggression, etc. The hug felt way too awkward for what she was used to.
"Yeah, real awesome. Just don't let it get to your head." Like that scorpion venom coursing through her veins. She spoke a bit more sluggishly as she gestured to her own head. She gave him a crooked smile, her thoughts still on Chimamire touching her.
We'll be heading off, but if you try to hurt my student again I'll make sure you're burried underneath this desert, got it, low life Jashinist?
Tsubaki stared at Kozaimaru-sensei, stunned at his attitude, dumbfounded by his last words. He hugged her close to him and pointed at Chi, whom had resulted to sulking on the desert floor about them leaving her there. Jashinist? Whatever that meant. It was not as if Tsubaki had ever been educated on what a Jashinist even was, so why should she even care?
"What's the matter with you, sensei? Get up, Chi," she said, her voice going cold. She was obviously getting angry. "You're embarrassing me. We're going home now, so quit your moping."
