Basic Information
Zu Lee
- Age: 22
- Height: 6'1
- Weight: 185
- Gender: Male
- Appearance: Tall and slender, Zu Lee has a scrawny build, seeing as he doesnt each much but still worked hard in the circus. His normal attire is a simple Earth Kingdom garb, yellow and green with various patches of dirt and some tears here and there. Even though hes an earth bender, he has the traits of a Fire Nation citizen, what with his sharp facial features and his amber eyes. And while his natural hair color is a dark shade of brown, he had his hair dyed white. At the time, he was still an entertainer in the circus and thought it appropriate for his rather exotic profession. Put into a ponytail.Character Quirks
- Personality: Always the clever one, Zu Lee always seems to be thinking of something, usually something humorous. Quick to respond with wit, his happy-go-lucky demeanor is mismatched with his past experiences, possibly as a form of suppression. He'll often act dramatic for no apparent reason, other than for the sake of being dramatic. This includes a strange way of talking and the use of hand gestures. Being as animated as he is, he's actually quite lazy, attempting to get out of work he finds unnecessary. The only work he actually does is carrying around his puppet and bending. He actually finds it more entertaining and decent practice to have the puppet move things around. Unfortunately, recent events has changed this since there is no more circus to assist.
In his travels, he'll occasionally come off as "high maintenance", often seeking replacement for the life he lost as a performer. He's also got quite the silver tongue, talking his way in and out of various situations. When you really get to know him, you'll find that he has a subtle sense of sadism, hiding his elation at the harm of others.
In spirituality, he does have some idea about destiny and the like, but he believes that anything can happen, but for a reason. Trying to hold on to the surprise of life while attempting to deny that fate has full control over him. - Alignment: True Neutral
- Nation: Born in the Fire Nation capital, raised in a traveling circus.
- Affiliation: Given recent events, hes really only loyal to his friends.
- Goal(s): Outside of becoming a great performer, he seeks any kind of fame. Or infamy.
- Brief History: Born a child of the Earth Kingdom and Fire Nation, Zu Lee was born and raised under the influence of traveling entertainment. Never sitting in one place for very long, he'd be introduced to all sorts of people and cultures. Growing up, he inherited his father's earthbending talents. It was at this young age, however that an accidental circus fire took place. The flames were deemed as a natural occurance but young Zu Lee swore he saw something in the flames. These flames were unnatural. And despite the efforts of the local benders the flames took several lives. Including the lives of Zu Lee's parents. The circus persevered, however, as did Zu Lee. Growing up and spending his entire life attempting to perfect his unique style of bending, he's eventually gotten over, or rather, suppressed the horrible childhood accident.
Along his travels, he's made friends with two other talented benders, and over the course of several performances, they all became rather close. It was all going well until another fire as mysterious and unnatural as the last. Only this time, it was much more violent, and seemed more alive. This time around, the entire circus was taken by the otherworldly flames. This disaster only left Zu Lee and his friends as the survivors, and as distressed as they were, they went on to continue their travels together, attempting to make the best of what they have.Combat Marks - Stat System:
Physical Ability: 2
Weapon Mastery: 5
Bending Proficiency: 5
Speed: 1
Intelligence: 4 - Weapons: Modified porcelain doll: A life-sized white puppet with no defining features or face, and orbs for hands and feet. It has functioning iron joints and an iron wire frame beneath the thick porcelain shell.
- Occupation: Traveling performer, Earthbending puppeteer, Poet.
- Abilities:
Tier 1: - Tier 1- Puppetry Introduction: Any Earthbender could move a rock around. But it takes a certain state of mind to make it dance.~ This requires full concentration, needing full bending motion to move certain parts. Zu's puppet gets it own stats, having one point in both Physical Ability and Speed.
- Tier 1- Earthbending Introduction: Every Earthbender should be able to bend earth. It's the natural order! Benders can lift small stones and move them around with relative ease.
- Tier 1- Surface Shift: The bare surface of the ground is fair game for many earthbenders, allowing for a sneaky and unexpected movement on the ground in a single location. Effective in tripping targets and forcing them to lose balance for a few seconds.
- Tier 2:
- Tier 2- Puppetry Basics: Getting a little better, the puppet becomes more graceful and gains a bit more physical prowess, courtesy of the bender's own dexterity. This requires slightly less effort, still needing concentration but the motions allow for decent dodging ability. The puppet now has two points in Physical Ability and Speed
- Tier 2- Earthbending Basics: This level allows to the creation of temporary walls and barriers that reach to six feet in height and width, but only six inches in depth, and the ability to fire moderately sized stones with decent force and accuracy.
- Tier 3:
- Tier 3- Puppetry Advanced: With continued practice, the puppet can now withstand a decent amount of stress without cracking or having joints come loose. The bender in control can effectively dodge while requiring less intense focus on the puppet. Another point added to Physical Ability and Speed
- Tier 4:
- Tier 4- Puppetry Expertise: After long and meaningful practice, the puppet at disposal is now at peak "human" condition, being able to match the average Joe and a little bit more with little effort from the bender. Only anfew arm, hand and finger gestures are needed for full control, allowing the bender to use other earthbending tactics. This adds a fourth point to Physical Ability and Speed.
[li]Other: His bending style, while still earth bending, borrows a lot of the fluid motions of water bending. This allows him to control his puppet with precision.

BOOM!!! The sounds of whistling rockets sound the night sky, signaling the opening of the Great Tsung Bros. Circus of Spectacles! Benders of all nationalities come together to bring merriment and joy to the social masses all across the land. And this time around, they set up in the outskirts of the Earth Kingdom city of Omashu. A collection of large tents of various colors and designs were lit up by not just torches and bonfires, but by various fire benders performing their arts to keep the locals and tourists entertained. Inside the various tents were other acts, including waterbending and airbending acrobats, exotic animals from all over, and food that you'd never tasted before. Yes, this event was certainly the place to be.
"Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, and benders of all ages! Are you ready for another show!?" The ringmaster was closing and opening a show, getting the crowd pumped for the next event. Back behind a curtain, several people were waiting for the cue. Two, however, were talking. One was an Earthbender, in fancy, flamboyant garb. The other, his son. Little Zu Lee at the impressionable age of five. "But Daddy, I can do it! I can bend just as good as you!" Young Zu exclaimed, staring at his father with a determined expression. His father, Shang, simple smiled and kneeled down, laying a hand on Zu's shoulder. "I know, kiddo. But this isn't your time to shine. Not yet." "But..." Zu was going to put up an argument, until his mother appeared. She was dressed in the same fashion as Shang, also ready for the performance. "Now, Zu, you know better. The circus is dangerous!" she walks over to the father/son earth benders and also kneels. "Now stay in the audience, okay? You'll have a front-row seat." She then gently kisses her son on the forehead. Zu Lee simply pouts and folds his arms. "I always get a front-row seat."
Now introducing..." The show was about to start. Standing in a row of hooded figures, Shang and his wife of Fire Nation origin, Chun, stood together. Holding hands, they look to each other and exchange a kiss, wishing good luck for a grand performance. The ringmaster shouts aloud, "Shang and Chun, and the Stone Legion!" The curtain opens, and all of a sudden, Shang takes a stance and begins a stange dance. It starts like any other earthbending motion but seemed much more fluid. And these shrouded figures all leap from their positions and started to run, dance and even fight each other, all at once in perfect synchronization. The audience clapped and laughed and cheered, while Zu simply watched. He was, after all, used to this act. It was one of their best and he had seen it several times. Shang's motions were nonstop and powerful, and when he gave one powerful stomp, that was Chun's cue. She focused and took her stance, then fired a powerful blast of flame right at the audience. They screamed at the fire as it crept to them, engulfing the dancers and making them fall. The music stops and the bodies of the dancers simply laid their still on fire. The audience stared in shock, believing that the dancers were really dead. But then Shang gave another powerful stomp, which made all dancers stand at attention. The audience gasped at the flaming performers that were still alive. They began to dance again, their bodies leaving beautiful streams of orange flames as they were more animated than before. The audience again began cheering, awestruck by the display. For the finale, the dancers leapt high into the air and towards the audience. They danced just above the crowds, as though they were flying! The audience clapped and cheered loudly as few left in fear of the act. Zu Lee still only watched.
At the end, the dancers all flew back into their starting positions. And as they landed, it was now obvious why they were the "Stone Legion." Their cloaks were now all burned up, and there stood a line of stone statues, brought to life by bending! The rest of the audience shouted in appreciation of the skill, the statues all bowing in unison, Shang and Chun waving at the audience. The curtain closes, and the act is over.
Zu was just leaving the stands when an explosion could be heard behind the curtain. The entire set lights up and suddenly there was chaos. "L- ladies and gentlemen, we seem to have had an accident. If you would please evacuate in an orderly f-" Of course, there's no way they would listen. They began to stampede out of the stands as a fire began to spread. Zu attempted to leave the stands to find his parents but the panic of the audience was confusing and pushing him around. By the time he could make his way backstage, there were already benders on the scene, some tossing water at the flames, others using sand, and fire benders trying to force the flames to settle. But something was strange about these flames. The more the benders fought, the more intense the flames became. Zu Lee watched in horror at the flames. For he saw something. A single, massive eye of a serpent was in the flames, growling and staring into Zu's being. Nobody else seemed to notice this, and kept fighting. But Zu Lee was too paralyzed with fear to even think. He was locked in the gaze of the flames, until his mother showed up with the ringmaster. "Zu, its too dangerous!" "Where's Daddy!?" "I'll find your father, I promise. But you MUST LEAVE!!!" "But..." The ringmaster hastily lifts Zu up. "She's right, my boy, we must make haste!" Zu was being carried away as his mother waved to him. "MOMMY!!!" She turned to face the flames, and was using her firebending to fight the flames and push them back. But so too did these living flames fight back. In a sudden flourish, the flames bellowed outwards and took her. This was the last image of his mother that Zu had seen before the ringmaster carried him out of the tent. Being set down, he stared at the tent as it caught fire, tears streaming down his face. "Mommy... Daddy..." The ringmaster hugged and held him close, attempting to shield his vision. "I'm sorry, son. They're..."
Later that morning, the flames were long gone, finally snuffed out by the benders that fought. Reports say that Shang had been caught in the initial explosion, and died immediately. Chun, among many others, had died from not being strong enough to fight the flames. All had agreed that it was an accident with the powder needed for the next act. And that the flames were just too powerful. But the only one who knew otherwise was too young to be taken seriously. Zu Lee swore he saw a monster, a snake of some sorts with a massive, flaming eye. But who would believe a child of his age who just lost his parents? His claims were disregarded as fantasy, and so he was forced to grow up and accept that it was a fear-induced hallucination.[/li][/ul]
